Obituary of Jean M. Sanford
Wayland – Jean Sanford, 86 years of age, passed away August 14th, 2016 at St. James Hospital in Hornell. Jean was born December 23, 1929 in Great Bend, PA the daughter of John and Alice (Carver) McCarthy.
Jean started school in Great Bend, PA and upon moving to Hornell, she graduated from Hornell High School in 1947. She then resided in Wayland for a couple of years, Dansville, Campbell, Avon and back to Wayland in 1969. She was employed at A.B. Cowles in Wayland working in the assembly and manufacturing departments. On November 26th, 1955 Jean married Brice Sanford. Together they celebrated over 55 years of marriage prior to Brice passing away in April of 2011. Jean enjoyed playing board games till all hours of the night, especially scrabble. She also enjoyed reading, watching soap operas, figure skating and opera muisic. Her greatest joy though was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jean was pre-deceased by her parents, John and Alice McCarthy; her husband Brice Sanford; a daughter, Mary Alice Repp; her siblings, Marcella Healy, Alice DeSantis, Dorothy Hyland, Jim McCarthy and John McCarthy. She is survived by her children, Mark (Sandra) Sanford of Wayland, Yvonne Sanford of Wayland, Christine Sanford of N. Cohocton, and Kevin (Lisa) Sanford of Wayland; her son-in-law, Michael Repp of West Falls; grandchildren, Alissa Sanford of Wayland, Richard Sanford (Brittney Needham) of Springwater, Emily Sanford of N. Cohocton, Monica (Kurt) Mullen of Bath and Jessica Sanford (Zach Garrett) of S. Dansville; great grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin and Aria; special nieces Karen and Kate; along with several other nieces and nephews.
Jean’s family and friends may call Friday from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, Wayland. Committal prayers and internment will take place immediately following at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hornell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.
