Obituary of Leon D. Sanford
Nunda – Leon D. Sanford, 77 years of age, passed away early Sunday morning, August 28, 2016 at the Vincent House Comfort Care Facility in Wayland.
Leon was born October 11, 1938 in Nunda the son of Leon S. and Lena (Walsworth) Sanford. He grew up in Nunda and had remained a life resident of the Nunda / Dalton areas. Leon served his country in the United States Army from June 27, 1956 until his honorable discharge June 26, 1959. He enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, reading and especially travelling to different areas that included Missouri and Maine. Leon was a member of the Dansville Moose Club, the Perry VFW and the Perry Vets Club.
Leon was pre-deceased by his parents; an infant daughter Becky Lea; and a son-in-law, Bruce Bernard Jr.. He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn (Calvin) Moffat of Dalton, Jennifer Bernard of Perry and Barbara Sanford (Keith Gelser) of Dalton; his grandchildren, Philip Sanford, Eric Bernard, Jessica (Jesse) Phillips, Trevor Bernard, Katherine Gelser and Elijah Gelser; his great-grandchildren, Allison and Parker Phillips; his sisters Jean (Jim) Guy of Dansville and Sharon (Herman) Bradford of Arkport; along with many nieces and nephews.
Leon’s wishes were to give back and have his body donated to the University of Rochester Anatomical Gift program. Leon and his family have been assisted by the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, Wayland. Memorial contributions to Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.
