Obituary of Yvonne N. Stilson
Wayland – Yvonne N. Stilson, 91 years of age, passed away early Thursday morning March 9, 2017 at the Steuben Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare facility.
Yvonne was born July 23, 1925 in Hornell the daughter of William and Mary (Perry) Drake. She was a graduate of the Hornell High School Class of 1944. Yvonne and Karl Stilson were married April 18, 1945 and together celebrated over 42 years together prior to Karl passing away in September of 1987. Yvonne’s employment career spanned a few different areas. She worked for Blum’s Shoe Factory, A.B. Cowles, Bird’s Eye in Wayland and Avon, the Gunlocke Company and finally as a cook at St. Joseph’s Rectory in Wayland.
Yvonne’s hobbies were many as she enjoyed making hand hooked rugs and doll houses for her family. She was a great cook and baker, especially pies that were “out of this world!” Yvonne enjoyed her gardens (her asparagus patch was second to no one) and she loved to shop. Her family, friends and caregivers will miss her feisty personality!
Yvonne was pre-deceased by her husband Karl Stilson; her son-in-law Thomas Pardington; her daughter-in-law, Linda Stilson; her siblings, Malcolm Drake, Thoryl Drake and his wife Phyllis, Phyllis Burley and her husband Art, Bill Drake and Perry Drake. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Charles) Flansburg of Hornell, Theresa (Dave) Fusco of Bath, Karl Stilson of Rochester, Evelyn Pardington of Geneva, Louise Stilson of Elmira, Joseph (Colette) Stilson of Rochester, Audrey (Ned) Borger of Northampton, PA and Lucy Stilson (Bill Snyder) of Billings,MT; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Margaret Drake of Hornell; along with several nieces and nephews.
Yvonne’s family and friends may call Wednesday March 15, 2017 from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Yvonne Thursday March 16, 2017 at 11am St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Yvonne N.
