Obituary of Richard K. Whitenack
Dansville – Richard “Dick” Whitenack, 72 years of age, passed away Friday April 14, 2017 at Highland Hospital in Rochester after a brief illness.
Dick was born November 28, 1944, in Dansville, the son of Charles and Thelma (Kennedy) Whitenack. He grew up in West Sparta and has resided in the West Sparta / Dansville areas his entire life. Dick and Elizabeth “Bettie” (Forsythe) Statler were married September 19, 1992 in Dansville and together have celebrated over 24 years of marriage. His employment career spanned a couple different areas that included Akzo Nobel Salt Company in Retsof for over 30 years and he worked for Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital for 16 years.
Dick loved the outdoors, whether it was just going into the woods or hunting. However his penchant to help others was first and foremost in his life. Regardless of your situation he was ready to assist. Dick was very active in many local organizations and local politics. Of special significance to Dick was his longtime membership in the Dansville Moose Club, enjoying promotion through their hierarchy. Other organizations included but not limited to the West Sparta Historical Society; West Sparta Town Justice; Dansville Village Trustee for 8 years, ending his tenure with a proclamation of gratitude and a key to the village; and the Dansville Historical Society. Dick was also very instrumental in the beginning of the local branch of the Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse of Livingston County on Main Street in Dansville and was a Friend of Bill W. Throughout the years, Dick was also a member of the Dansville United Methodist Church.
Dick was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Thelma Whitenack; his brother George Whitenack; and his sister-in-law, Margaret Baker. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Whitenack of Dansville; his children, Deborah (Gary) McCray of Dansville, Tracey (Stephen) Badger of GA, Laura (Brendan) McClinton of Fairport, Joseph (Tara) Statler of Warsaw, James Statler (Parthena) of Lyons; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Keeley, Eric, Amy, William, Olivia, Matthew, Aaron, Gavin and Carson; his great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce, Cameron, Christabel, Levi and Eloise; along with many many friends of Bill W.
Dick’s family and friends may call Saturday from 11am – 1pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Dick’s funeral service will follow calling hours on Saturday at 2pm at the Dansville United Methodist Church, 5 Chestnut Ave., Dansville.
