Obituary of Wanda A. Smith
Dansville – Wanda A. Smith, 94 year of age, passed away late Sunday evening May 21, 2017 at Hornell Gardens where she has resided for a few years.
Wanda was born, February 23, 1923 in Patchinsville the daughter of Raymond and Ida (Gould) Bennett. She grew up in Dansville and has remained a life resident until her move three years ago to Hornell Gardens. For many years, Wanda was a teacher’s aide at the Dansville Primary School and she also worked on the family dairy farm and nursery. Wanda and Frank “Red” Smith were married October 17, 1939 at the family home and together celebrated 30 years of marriage prior to Red passing away in November of 1969. Throughout the years, Wanda enjoyed sewing (especially making quilts), had a passion for flowers, taking care of children and especially was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Wanda was pre-deceased in life by her parents; her husband Frank “Red” Smith; a son Robert Smith in 2010; and a son in law, David Schapp. She is survived by her children, Richard (Carole) Smith of Leesburg, FL, David Smith of Dansville, Gail Schapp of Scottsburg, Dorothy (Robert) Thompson of Livonia, Paulette (Alan) Warner of N. Fort Myers, FL, Terry Smith of Dansville; her daughter in law, Mary Ellen Smith of Dansville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a few great-great grandchildren.
Wanda’s funeral service and interment (Greenlawn Cemetery) will be private and at the convenience of her family. Contributions in memory of Wanda A. Smith may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005.
