Obituary of Catherine M. Rauber
Wayland – Catherine M. Rauber, 89 years of age passed away late Thursday afternoon May 25, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
Catherine was born April, 22, 1928 in Wayland the daughter of Adam and Margaret (Bricks) Engel. She grew up in Perkinsville and has remained a life-long resident of the Perkinsville / Wayland areas. Catherine and Richard “Richie” Rauber were married November 24, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville. Together they celebrated over 47 years of marriage prior to Rich passing away in May of 1993. Catherine along with Rich owned and operated Rauber’s Agway since 1965. Their business was important to them; however treating their customers right was more important!
Catherine had several hobbies that included, baking; especially her famous Christmas cookies and Thanksgiving stuffing. She always had a vegetable stand by her home that included Rauber’s corn year after year and she would can many of the vegetables and make homemade jams. She loved beautiful flowers as well. You knew summer was close when you would drive by her house and the flowers were planted. Family gatherings that included clams, fireworks and lots of fun on Sunday was of special significance to Catherine. She enjoyed many special memories with her family, was always concerned for her family and her attitude of selflessness was second to no one.
Catherine was pre-deceased by her parents, Adam and Margaret Engel; her husband Richard Rauber; her son Richard Rauber Jr.; her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Timothy Mark; her brothers Raymond and Adam Engel; and her sister Leona Mark. She is survived by her daughters, (Katie’s Angels) and their husbands, Kathy and David Snyder of Wayland, Mary and David Polmanteer of Wayland, Sandy and Mark Sanford of Wayland, Susie and Stephen Holmes of Springwater and Betsy and Jim Cotter of Wayland; her special companion and friend of over 20 years Robert Kuhn; her grandchildren, Rene (Terry) Lewis, Kevin Mark (Kelly Harrison), Matthew Mark (Amie Hopkins), Jeff Mark (Michelle Keppen), Bryan (Wendi) Snyder, Cristie (Tim) Onder, Alissa Sanford, Richie Sanford (Brittany Needham), Catherine Mark, Jennifer (Darren) Graham and Laura (Chad) Nisbet; her great-grandchildren, Gregg (Brandie) Mark, Connor Mark, Stephanie Lewis, Kyle Lewis, Cole Snyder, Neyla Onder, Parker Mark, Ella Graham, and Aria Sanford; her sister-in-law Betty Engel; along with several nieces and nephews.
Catherine’s family and friends may call Monday from 12-3pm and 6-9pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Catherine at 11am Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland. Contributions in memory of Catherine M. Rauber may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.
