Obituary of Dorothy R. Nickel

Wayland – Victor – Dorothy R. Nickel, 95 years of age, passed away Monday afternoon, July 2, 2018 at the Vincent House in Wayland.

Dorothy was born February 22, 1923 in Attica, the daughter of Benjamin and Dorothy (Lattin) Root. She grew up in Attica and resided in the Rochester until 1948, then in the Victor area until 1973 when she moved to Sarasota, FL. Dorothy resided in Sarasota until a year ago when she moved back north and spent time with her daughters in both Wayland and Victor. Dorothy and Vernon J Nickel were married May 15, 1942 in Rochester and together celebrated over 51 years of marriage prior to Vernon passing away in January of 1994. Dorothy’s employment career was mostly spent as a capital assets bookkeeper for the Burroughs Corporation in Rochester. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents; her husband Vernon; and her sisters, Debra Sawken and Letti Jane Dickey. She is survived by her children, Jane (Claude) Owens of FL, John R. Nickel (Barbara Mee) of NC, June (Giovanni) Gullace of Victor, Jean McMillan of Wayland, and Janet A. Nickel (Russ Bigelow) of FL; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews. 

Dorothy’s funeral services will be private and at the convenience of her family. Her final resting place will be at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sarasota, FL.
