Obituary of Dana Frederick Colegrove
Springwater – Dansville – Dana F. Colegrove, 89 years of age, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2019 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Dana was born July 6, 1929 in Rochester the son of Frederick and Thelma (Gilbert) Colegrove.
Dana grew up in Livonia and moved to Springwater when he was about 15 years old. He remained in Springwater for the majority of his life and then moved to Dansville 18 years ago. Dana’s employment career was mostly spent at GM Delco Division in Rochester as a line set up operator. Dana and Frances Golden were married December 18, 1948 in Springwater and together have celebrated over 70 years of marriage.
His hobbies were many as he enjoyed camping at the Thousand Islands and New Hampshire; rebuilding cars, especially his Model T and Mustang; enjoyed golfing, with a special award given to him for hitting an alligator on the head with a golf ball!; and he could fix just about anything. Dana was a Buffalo Bills fan and an avid NASCAR fan with Kasey Kahne and Bill Elliot being his favorite drivers. Dana was also very civic oriented as he volunteered for the Springwater Fire and Ambulance Departments; the Community Chest; Little League; Boy Scouts of America; town assessor; and was very active in the Springwater United Methodist Church for years.
Dana was affectionately referred to as the quiet charmer and family advisor for all situations! He will be dearly missed.
Dana was pre-deceased by his parents, Frederick and Thelma Colegrove. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Frances Colegrove of Dansville; his children, Steven (Michelle) Colegrove of Dansville, Candace (David) Brownell of Wayland and Karen Oas of Dansville; his grandchildren, Courtney (Peter) Waldron of AL, Christian Colegrove (Janette Westman) of Rochester, Kelsey Clark of Avon, Tyler Colegrove (Megan Moran) of Dansville, Sarah Bauer of Rochester, Carina (Chris) Furia of Wayland, Eric (Tabitha) Brownell of Honeoye, Brett Brownell of NYC, Kaleigh (Eric) Briceland of NC, Michael Folts of Wayland and Molly Oas of Wayland; son-in-law, Russell Oas of Wayland; great-grandchildren, Jacob Baker, Joshua Baker, Casey Furia, Olivia Furia, Payton Brownell, Ryder Genung, Kainen Folts, Myles Briceland and Chase Briceland; 2 great-great grandchildren; his brother Harvey (Charlotte) Colegrove of Henrietta; his sister-in-law Jean Vlangas of Manchester, NH; along with many many nieces and nephews.
Dana’s family and friends are invited to call Saturday May 4, 2019 from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Dana’s funeral service will be private along with his interment at Covered Bridge Cemetery in Springwater. A celebration of Dana’s life will take place in July around the time that would be his 90th birthday and will be announced at that time.
