Obituary of Stanley G. Gilbert

Wayland – Stanley G. Gilbert, 86 years of age, passed away Sunday December 6, 2020 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Stanley was born December 1, 1934 in Sparta, NY the son of Milo and Clara (Parsons) Gilbert. He grew up in the Sparta/Dansville areas and moved to Wayland in 1970. Stanley has remained a resident of the Wayland area ever since. He was a 1953 graduate of Dansville Central School and then earned an Associates of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Stanley and Betty Cooley were married February 11, 1967 and together celebrated over 41 years of marriage prior to Betty passing away on November 28, 2008. Stanley’s employment career spanned many different areas. He was an instructor for the US Army for 30 years; he owned and operated Gilbert’s Wholesale (distributor of paper products); owned and operated the Wayland Family Shoe Store; and was the Vice President for Serv-Rite Food Service Corp. Stanley and Betty also ran the Busy Bee Restaurant in Dansville for a number of years. His hobbies were many as well. Stanley enjoyed antiques, odds and ends, finding a deal and woodworking. Stanley was community oriented and enjoyed volunteering in different organizations. He was a past president of the `Wayland Rotary Club; assistant director of the Wayland Historical Society; and he was very active with the Wayland Potato Festival Rotary Food Tent. Stanley was also a member of the Springway Baptist Church in Wayland for many years. Stanley was pre-deceased by his parents, Milo and Clara Gilbert; his wife Betty Gilbert; his brother, Seymour Gilbert and his sisters, Esidean Rawleigh, Isabelle Mulley and Beatrice Swartz. He is survived by his son, Richard Gilbert of Seminole, FL; his step-son Glen (Jean) Schuster of Rochester; his grandchildren, Richard Jr and Jacob Gilbert and Ani and Kaylene Schuster; and special friend Sheila with whom he was friends with for many years. Stanley’s family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday September 11, 2021 at 11am at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.
