Obituary of Mary Etta Saxton
Cohocton – Mary Etta Saxton, 77 years of age, passed away early Monday morning, October 4, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary Etta was born June 22, 1944 in Bath, the daughter of J. Brayton and Frances J. (Edwards) Lyke.
Mary Etta grew up in Howard, NY and was a 1962 graduate of Avoca Central School. Subsequent to graduation she earned her Dental Hygienist Degree from Erie Tech. She worked for Dansville Dental for over 41 years. Mary Etta and Chuck Saxton were married July 16, 1965 and have celebrated over 56 years of marriage. They have resided in Cohocton their entire time together.
Mary Etta enjoyed gardening, crafts (especially cross stitching) and was a past member of the Cohocton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Cohocton Sports Boosters. She was a dedicated member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Cohocton. Mary Etta loved spending time with her grandchildren and going to all of their sporting events over the past 25 years.
Mary Etta was predeceased by her parents, Brayton and Frances Lyke; and her siblings, Joyce Baker, Shirley Lyke, Clarence Lyke, Laura Saxton and Eldon Lyke. She is survived by her husband, Chuck Saxton of Cohocton and her children, Sarah (Mike) Grammatico of Batavia, Julie Martin of Wayland and Stephen (Rhonda) Saxton of Arkport. Her grandchildren were the joys of her life: Christopher (Kaley), Tommy (Carolyn), Lucas, Hannah, Emily and Cole; her great-granddaughter, Stella Rae. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters in-law, Joyce (Brian) Wheaton of Cohocton and Stanley (Patti) Saxton of Paoli, IN; along with multitudes of nieces, nephews and extended family. She will be especially missed by her dog, Abby.
Mary Etta’s family and friends may call Friday, October 8, 2021 from 4-7 pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Mary Etta’s funeral service will be Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Zion Lutheran Church, 20 South Dansville St. in Cohocton; masks are required and seating is limited. Committal prayers and interment will immediately follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mary Etta Saxton may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 20 South Dansville St., Cohocton, NY 14826.
