Obituary of David G. Wheeler
Wayland – David G. Wheeler, “Wheelie” - 67 years of age, passed away late Tuesday night, December 28, 2021.
Wheelie was born on February 27, 1954, in Elmira, the son of William and Anita (Geer) Wheeler. He grew up in Arkport and graduated from high school in 1972. Soon after graduation Wheelie moved to Wayland and has been a resident ever since, commonly referred to as the “Mayor of Patchinville.” He worked at the Gunlocke Company for many years, often travelling to repair custom orders until he retired as a group leader in the specialty shop.
Motorcycles were his life! Starting with dirt bikes as a child he then grew up to become an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast. Rain or shine he loved riding! Equally he also enjoyed building, repairing, and painting Harley’s. Many bikes in the local area were painted by Wheelie. He also applied his great artistic skills and attention to detail to a variety of projects. He especially enjoyed model building. Wheelie was a member of both the NCA Club and the Wayland Rod& Gun Club where he served as treasurer for many years. And of course, he always enjoyed a cold Coors Light and a cigarette!
Wheelie was pre-deceased by his parents, William, and Anita Wheeler; and a brother Michael “Bummer” Wheeler. He is survived by his daughters; Casey Wheeler and Laura Wheeler, both of Rochester. His “match and life partner” Deb Arrison of Wayland; her son DouglasOwens of Springwater. His siblings Sandy (John) Sleggs of Cuba, Susan (John) Skillman of Penn Yan, Kathryn (Dick) Russell of Hornell and Eric Wheeler of Arkport; his sister-in-law Debbie Wheeler of Almond. The mother of his daughters, Denise Hartman of Canadice. Several nieces and nephews; and especially his dog, Daisy.
Wheelie’s family and friends may call Saturday January 15, 2022 from 1-3pm at the St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. His funeral service will take place immediately following at 3pm at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life at the Wayland Rod & Gun Club.
In lieu of flowers, contributionsin memory of David ”Wheelie” Wheeler may be made to Faith in Action, 20 Broadway Mall, Hornell, NY 14843 or to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
