Uncle Elsie,
I am incredibly grateful to have been able to call you my uncle. You were such a great supporter, making trips to watch me compete all the the time. Even when things didn't go well for me, you always had something great to say, even make me laugh. I will always cherish memories of seeing you smile and be the life of the party. I envy what you did in the community and will strive to do something similar. The community you surrounded yourself with is amazing. Aunt Ginny, Murray, and Tommy, I am saddened and sending you much love and support. I look forward to many years of love, laughter and smiling ahead of us.

It’s taken a week to try to put my feelings into words. Coach and Mrs Tripp have been a part of my and my family’s lives for over 60 + yrs. To say goodby is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. My son Rick said it best when he said they were the originators of ”No child left behind”, no matter what your ability if you wanted to participate, there was a place made for you. Whether on a team or a part written into an already casted play, you were included. This was Cohocton Central School at its finest. They came to CCS as student teachers and later became full time teachers and mentors. Ironically, they were advisors for my graduating class of 1965 and for each of our three kids, Rick Towner, Ronda Sick and Ryan Towner. Neither Coach nor Mrs Tripp ever knew that anything was impossible. They have instilled the concept to generations of kids that anything worthwhile is possible and you do have the ability of succeeding if you work together. When I think of the Sports Complex I have to smile. We volunteers worked hand in hand under the direction and determination of Coach. We ended up hosting multiple State Soccer Finals. Who would have thought this could even happen! The Complex became our social meeting grounds. Games almost every night of the week had us turned into “professional” concessioners! We were excused from serving food to watch our own kids play on the fields. What a wonderful time! I remember Elsie as not only a Coach but also the bus driver to many games. I’ll always remember his grin and his recall of the history of our community. I believe the photo I’ve posted was when Coach was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. Our hearts are heavy with grief but full of memories we will hold forever. RIP Coach, both you and Mrs Tripp have made us what we are today. You both are loved and respected.

I was never any good in sports and didn’t poccess any musical or song talent. Yet 13 years of my life at Cohocton Central were full of time with Coach and Virginia Tripp. That time created a lifetime of love and respect for you both. You were the orginal "No Child Left Behind" and touched everyone of us as we passed through Cohocton Central and beyond.
I'm thankful for the recent talks with Coach and the help and opportunity he gave me in my recent small business enterprise. He wasn't quite the same tough of nails Coach when I came back and explained I was shutting down due to much opposition and not wanting him dragged into it. "Things aren't the way they used to be around here" he told me. "People always supported one another here, but thats changed". I saw he was disappointed with me quitting. But I think he was more saddened by why.
I can't believe your gone Coach. I'll carry the values and integrity you taught me forever.

I attended a K-12 school in the tiny farming community of Cohocton, NY. Most of the students stayed at the school with the same kids and same teachers for their entire educational experience. The teachers were almost an extra set of parents for us all. They were unique and so invested in our community.
The teachers at that school were extra special because many of us had families where things happened that we didn’t talk about back in those days. They absorbed us and gave us so many opportunities to do wonderful things in our lives, to think about things that mattered. We played musical instruments, sang in choir, worked in the library, took art lessons, learned several languages, performed in school productions that were as good as Broadway musicals, took us on field trips to far off places and taught us character, values and discipline. Many students played sports for years with Coach Tripp. He made boys turn into men real quick right along with the dads.
Today a legend in town died. He was the Coach, mentor, leader and part time dad to thousands of us kids who were lucky enough to attend Cohocton Central School. He did this, but soooooo much more. Every student has their own stories to tell and keep in their hearts about Coach and Mrs. Tripp. They took me to Washington D.C. What a trip for me! Every chapter in the Tripps life is filled with all sorts of magic!
I love you Coach and Mrs. Tripp! I am one of the little girls you helped save….whether you ever knew it or not! ❤️
Rest in Peace Coach! God Speed ❤️

It is amazing to think that Coach Tripp taught all the physical education classes from K to 12 in Cohocton and all the boys' varsity sports. There were no organized girls' sports when I was in high school, so he set up matches with Avoca and intramural games. I often helped with home track meets by keeping score. Coach would thank me for the help, smile and then say, "You will get your reward in heaven, but ...... first you have to get there!" I am sure Coach is already there. Rest in peace.

Ozzie Tripp was truly a kind and generous man. He was devoted to Virginia and his two sons - Murray and Tom. His efforts in building character among Cohocton youth through sports are well known. Many Cohocton students are better for his training and example.
Ozzie was also a knowledgeable historian of the Cohocton/Loon Lake area. We had several chats about the sailing club at Loon Lake. He remembered details and recited stories with fond remembrance of the old times at Loon Lake. He remembered the Palace at the lake and could tell stories of the bands that played there and the patrons.
Ozzie also kept a photo collection of his time serving during the Korean War. He was deservedly proud of his service to his country.
As with the passing of all great people, there will be a loss felt by many who knew him. His stories and humor will be missed.
Condolences,
Marty and Barbara Zone

Coach gave me this varsity jacket when I was in 8th grade. My brother Todd Harmon was a senior, I wanted too be able to play soccer with him before he graduates. Coach told me if you can show me you can play at varsity level I MIGHT have a spot for you. One day offer JV practice he handed me a Varsity jacket and said your on the Varsity team. I will never forget that.

Very difficult to put into words the emotions I have of the passing of a man who was so influential within the lives of many, Cohocton Central and Coach are synonymous. One could argue that CCS is the house that Coach built. For me, not only was he Coach, but he also became my friend. Always greeted me with a nod and a smile, followed up with a whimsical jab. During my working career in corrections, coach would ask me how the job was going, "Ok Coach!" then he would sum it up by saying, well Brian, I always knew you would end up in jail! Both of us would chuckle and laugh. But that was his way of expressing his affection. I am blessed to have known him beginning as a student, then throughout my adult life. I've engaged in many conversations with coach being the topic. I.ve seem many trying to imitate his famous "Be Ready!" Montra from court side. but they all were mere imposters. There will only be one Coach Tripp, which can be summed up in one word, Iconic! I will miss my coach, my storyteller, my friend. God Bless you Coach! Thank you for everything you have done for me. Rest in Peace

I can go on all day writing about Coach. He was one of the greatest people that I knew. He was all for kids. He worked extremely hard at everything he did. From teaching, the sports complex, farming, Fall Festival, etc. No kid went hungry when coach was around. If a kid didn't have money to pay, Coach took care of it. He was extremely patriotic and served his country and community well. To me, he was a true hero. Not a sports personality. Coach, I will miss talking to you at the complex. Rest easy. You have deserved it.

Your father was a wonderful coach and a great person. He coached me in basketball, soccer, and baseball. He stood by me when I joined the Navy during my junior year in school. Knowing what was ahead of me, he let me use the weight room that he and Jimmy Millenbacker set up for themselves in Aunt Bess's garage. Thanks to him I was not only able to achieve my objectives in the Navy, but because of Coach's training I also played on the US Navy's baseball team. I'll never forget the memories of my mother riding the bus home after a winning game, and all the fun we had throughout the season. Coach was such a nice person, he loved the kids. Whether you were good or bad, he gave everyone a chance. I'm a better person thanks to Coach. My heartfelt condolences for your loss, I'll never forget.

Someone asked me how long I knew coach. A lifetime is the answer. First as a coach and teacher and then as a friend. He always was there. The Sports complex was his joy. He said if the kids were there at least they were 'off the streets'. And no kid went hungry down there even if they didn't have enough money to pay. Why? Because it's all for the kids. I will miss you terribly. But you taught us well.

Long ago 1957-58 I was one of the Cohocton boys that rented a room from "Azzie's" Dad and Mom, Frank and Lenora , Rochester, NY on Ridgeway Avenue. I had gotten a job at Eastman Kodak Company and found out that his Dad and Mom only rented rooms/beds to Cohocton boys. I was one of the lucky ones. From there it was an easy walk to my Kodak Building. First met "Azzie" there. Friends for 60ish years. Virginia was my High School Music teacher. Rest in Peace dear friend.

I am Stephanie Larrin Steiner. Our fathers were good friends. He was my Uncle Lee's good friend also. I always remember when I came to visit my Aunts Aunt Rosie Mauth and Aunt Fannie. He always stopped by. I helped him a few times at fall foliage selling food. I best remember when he brought down sod to Fannie house to sod in front of house on Larrin Lane for Uncle Lee's Birthday.
I helped lay the sod in the field. Your couched my cousins David and John Mauth in sports also. Your Father was a great person
to many. He will be greatly missed.
