Obituary of Ruth (Zimmer) Clark

Wayland – Ruth E. (Zimmer) Clark, 93 years of age, passed away early Saturday morning September 26th, 2015 at the Vincent House Comfort Care Center in Wayland. Ruth was born April 16th, 1922 at home in Cohocton the daughter of Floyd “Jack” and Pauline (Bolster) Lyon. Ruth was raised in Cohocton and graduated from Cohocton Central School. Ruth and Roy Zimmer were married November 25th, 1943, and together celebrated over 36 years of marriage prior to Roy’s passing away in January of 1979. Ruth and Roy resided in Wayland their entire time together and raised five children, Joyan, Janis, Judy, Jerrie and Jack. Ruth and Stanley M. Clark were married on January 2, 1982 and together they celebrated 13 years of marriage prior to Stanley’s passing away on August 6, 1995. During her long life, Ruth held many jobs. First and foremost she was a homemaker to her husband Roy and their five children. Over the years she worked at Kodak, General Dynamics and Westinghouse. Ruth and Stan built, owned and operated the Keuka Maid Dinner Boat on Keuka Lake, the Champagne Excursion Train and the Cohocton Valley Farm Museum. Ruth enjoyed life. She loved playing cards, especially pitch and gin, and was known to stay up all night playing these card games. She was also an avid Yankees fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and going out dancing with her friends. Besides her two husbands, Ruth was pre-deceased by her siblings, Roy “Jack” Lyon, Mae VanScoter, Rodney “Jack” Lyon and Betty Quanz. She is survived by her children, Joyan Nolan of Pittsford, Janis Zimmer (Bill Gehr) of Wayland, Judy (Robert) Parmiter of Newark, NY, Jerrie (Edwin) Briggs of Wayland and Jack Zimmer of Wayland; her grandchildren, Brett (Mistie) Rawlings, Chad (Nicole) Parmiter, Renee (Barry) Riddell, Alisa (Matthew) Erbland, Casey (Cassie) Vose, Jeena Zimmer and Ryan (Erica) Zimmer; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Carl (Ann) Zimmer; along with several nieces and nephews. Ruth’s family and friends are invited to her memorial service on Saturday at 11:00am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Cohocton. Committal prayers and internment will take place immediately following at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cohocton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ruth E. (Zimmer) Clark’s memory may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, 20 S. Dansville St., Cohocton, NY 14826 or to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.
