Obituary of Maria E. Staley
Wayland – Maria E. Staley, 58 years of age, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 25, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Maria, the daughter of Gerald “Jerry” Ferringer and Elaine (Eger) Atwell, was born June 7, 1964 in Buffalo. She grew up in Buffalo and in the early 1980’s she moved to the southern tier and remained in the Olean and Hornell areas for several years. In 1991, she moved to the Wayland area and has remained there ever since.
Maria’s hobbies and interests were numerous but included POGO computer games, euchre, collecting bells, and her cats. She was a lifelong avid Buffalo Bills fan and she made sure you knew it! Maria loved music. It could be country, (Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, and others), disco (singing and dancing to the Bee Gees) or rock, (Bon Jovi), it didn’t matter she loved it all. She loved to laugh, hug, and “pinch!” She loved swimming and just had a zest for life. Her grandchildren were the world to her, as were her children. Maria’s caring and kindness was ever present. She helped out so many throughout the years by bringing her children’s friends into her home. Her heart was huge and she would give whatever she could – whenever she could.
She was “Ma” or “Ma Staley” to so many. Maria will be remembered, she will be missed, and she will always be loved.
Maria was predeceased by her parents, Jerry Ferringer and Elaine Atwell; her grandson, Joseph A. Burleson Jr., and her sister, Sheri Renae Ferringer. She is survived by her children, Alicia (Brian) Bill of Wayland, Greg Staley of Wayland, Nanci R. Staley of Maryland, Melinda (Joseph) Burleson of Savona, Kristina Port of Wayland, and Liz Uhl of Wayland; her grandchildren, Kristopher, Autumn, Callista, Ceairra, Lyla, Chase, and Nolan; her step mother, Mary Alexander, rand her brother, Jerry Ferringer (Mary “Bunnie” Snyder) of Hornell.
