Obituary of Mary M. Elderkin

Wayland – Mary M. Elderkin, 83 years of age, passed away Thursday morning, May 11, 2023 at the Vincent House in Wayland. Mary was born May 16, 1939, in Sardinia, NY the daughter of Richard L. and Ester M. (Rogers) Bremiller. She grew up in Belfast and throughout the years she has resided in Hornell, Springwater, Perkinsville and for the last 16 years Wayland. Years ago Mary worked at AB Cowles in Wayland and for Natural Crafts.Mary and Nicholas Elderkin were married September 22nd, 1973 and have never stayed a night apart since then. They have celebrated over 52 years together and have a very special life together. Mary’s hobbies were many. She enjoyed her two parakeets, collecting knick knacks that included: wind chimes, salt and pepper shakers and stuffed animals. She has a life size Raggedy Ann and Andy set! Going for rides with Nick and watching the leaves turn color in the fall were favorites of hers as well. Mary’s family was the most important to her though. Her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and siblings all hold a very special place in her heart. The family bonds are strong and the love runs deep. She will be missed by them all. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, Richard and Ester Bremiller; her son Michael Spencer; and as one of 15 children, Mary has 8 siblings that have passed away. She is survived by her loving husband of over 52years, Nicholas J. Elderkin of Wayland; her children, Bonnie Carlberg (Lonnie Strong) of Wayland, Lynn(Debbie) Spencer of PA, Connie (Darrin) Wright of Wayland and Joseph Spencer of Springwater; many many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 6 of her siblings; along with many nieces and nephews. Mary’s celebration of life will be private and announced specifically by her family. Interment will also be private.
