Obituary of George E. Glady
Springwater/Wayland/Sarasota, FL – George E. Glady, 73 years of age, passed away Friday July 28, 2023 at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Sarasota, Florida.
George was born October 20, 1949 in Dansville, NY the son of Edward and Harriet (Penkoske) Glady. He graduated high school and went on to earn an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Optics from Monroe Community College in Rochester and then his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology.
George and Joann Simonsen were married April 2, 1977 at St. Paul’s Church in Wayland and have celebrated over 46 years together. Throughout their life together they have resided in many different areas in the country that included the Springwater/Wayland areas; Rochester, NY; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Tulsa, OK; Gaithersburg, MD; Herndon, VA; and finally retiring in Sarasota, FL.
George was an industrial engineer and entrepreneur. This background, his expertise and work ethic enabled he and Joann to build, operate and sustain a very successful contact lens manufacturing business; Euclid Systems Corporation in Herndon, VA.
George’s hobbies were many. He was a history enthusiast; loved to travel both nationally and internationally; collecting trains; woodworking; bluegrass music (listening to and singing as well); and playing poker. He was a baseball and football fan, choosing the team where he lived as his favorite at that time. George was also an accomplished bowler. He was a member of the PBA and had a sanctioned 300 game of which he was extremely proud!
George was pre-deceased by his parents, Edward and Harriet Glady. He is survived by his wife Joann Simonsen Glady of Sarasota; his daughter, Laura Valentine Glady of Sarasota; his sisters and their husbands, Antoinette and Gerald Thompson of Fairport, NY and Evelyn and Paul Lucas of Alexandria, VA; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
George’s funeral services will be announced as soon as they are finalized along with interment in Ashley Cemetery in Springwater, NY. Contributions in memory of George E. Glady may be made to :
