Obituary of Helen M. Cooper

Cohocton – Helen M. Cooper, 97 years of age, passed away Monday evening, November 27, 2023 at her home with her loving son Chet and granddaughters, Deborah and Jennifer by her side. Helen was born May 23, 1926 in Dalton the daughter of Daniel and Hazel (Washburn) Burr. She lived in Dalton for the first part of her life and when she was 16 her family moved to Dansville. Helen and Robert Cooper married on October 25, 1944 and together celebrated over 61 years of marriage prior to Bob passing away in April of 2006. Helen and Bob lived in Cohocton at her current residence for over 50 years and she has remained there. There are not many who can say they have lived in the same house for over 70 years. Helen loved to work in her lawn, garden and anywhere outdoors on their property. She enjoyed fishing with her husband and her grandchildren. Gardening, canning and baking all kinds of treats were favorites of hers as well. She loved traveling with her son Chet; Miami, Palm Beach, Houston, Las Vegas, Boston and Chicago to name a few. Helen’s greatest legacy was raising her family that included her children and especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each one held a special place in her heart and her in theirs. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Hazel Burr; her husband Robert Cooper; her son Vincent Cooper; her grandson, Edward Schneider; her siblings, Leon Burr, Marian Uhl, Ruth Kreiley, Robert Burr; and a sister in law Florence Burr. Helen is survived by her loving son Chester “Chet” Cooper of Cohocton; her daughter, Connie Ann Cooper Schneider of Florida; her grandchildren, Deborah Cooper (Paul Drozdziel) of Avon, Jeffrey (Cassie) Cooper of Arkport, Tammy (Pete) Menz of FL, Jennifer (Joe) Hengy of Cohocton, Terry Schneider (Brian Gilbert) of FL, and Kelly Mendoza of FL; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sisters Lula White of CA and Doris Culley of PA; along with many many nieces and nephews. Helen’s family will have a private committal service for her at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cohocton.
