Obituary of Roger M. O'Neal
Wayland - Roger Michael O’Neal, age 77, passed away peacefully on 12/25/23.
Roger was born 1/2/46 in Patchinsville, NY, the 3rd son to George and Irene O’Neal. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Perkinsville, and graduated from Wayland High School in 1962. He attended University of Buffalo, and returned to Wayland where he planted roots. Roger worked many years for Ag-Chem out of Cohocton, driving the “big wheel” (aka “Proud Mary”). It was through this role that he became friends with many WNY crop farmers. He later joined Labor Union 322 out of Massena, and ultimately finished his career working for the Pike Company out of Rochester.
Roger married Jacqueline (Jackie) Schutz in 1983 and together they raised their children; Kristin and Kyle. Roger was a devoted father, and attended every sporting and music event for his kids. Along with a small group of parents, Roger was instrumental in bringing football to the Wayland-Cohocton School District by creating and presiding over the football booster club. Roger was an avid sports-fan; he enjoyed watching football and Nascar, and spending time hunting and fishing any opportunity he had. Roger became a surrogate father to many of his kid’s friends, and was known for his chocolate-chip pancake breakfasts.
Roger is predeceased by his parents George and Irene, and brothers Lawrence Maynard and Lawrence Joseph “Puss.”. He is survived by his wife, Jackie of Wayland; children Kristin (James) Boggs of Geneva and Kyle (Katie) O’Neal of Honeoye Falls; grandchildren, Nathan, Kaylin, Lincoln, Easton and Everly; sisters in law Twila Hamilton of Cohocton, Gail (George) Curry of Penfield, Pam King of Lima; along with several nieces and nephews.
