Obituary of David Lee Brownell
Wayland – David L. Brownell, 73 years of age, passed away Wednesday December 20, 2023 at his home in Wayland. We find comfort in knowing he is reunited with his wife Candy. David and Candy were married August 18, 1995 and celebrated over 27 years together prior to Candy passing away in May of 2023.
David was born August 29, 1950 in Wayland the son of Daniel and Mary (Carney) Brownell. He grew up in Wayland, graduated from Wayland Central School and has remained a life resident of the area. David was a good athlete and while in high school he played baseball, basketball and ran track. After graduating from high school, he served his country in the United States Army and after his active duty he served in the United States Army Reserves. He did this for many years while working his every day job that included Sterling Homex, Forbes, Coca Cola and a 25 year career at Groveland Correctional Facility.
David or Pa, as many of his family and grandchildren called him will be dearly missed by all who knew him. You could often find David in the kitchen cooking a simple meal, a cake, or a meal for 100 at different events held at their home in Florida. One meal that will be missed by his grandchildren is his sloppy Joes. David and Candy enjoyed their winters at Whisper Creek and Mouse Mountain, where they are missed greatly. He enjoyed his Coca Cola collection, relaxing reading his kindle and watching his NY Yankees.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Mary Brownell; his wife, Candy Brownell; his father in law, Dana Colegrove; his brother, Daniel Brownell; and brothers in law, Jimmy Walker and Steven Colegrove. He is survived by his sons, Eric (Tabitha) Brownell of Springwater and Bret (Corinne) Brownell of the Bronx, NY; his step daughter, Carina (Chris) Furia of Wayland; his mother in law, Frances Colegrove of Dansville; his grandchildren, Payton, Jacob, Joshua, and Olivia; his siblings, Cathy (Dave) Reinholtz of Dansville, Debbie Walker of Wayland, Helen (William) Molyneaux of Dansville and Cindy Mansfield of Wayland; along with several nieces and nephews.
Contributions in memory of David Brownell may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572 or to the Santa Hat Society, PO Box 443, Dansville, NY 14437.
A celebration of life will be held later this year for David and Candy.
