Obituary of Mary M. Lemen
Dansville – Mary M. “Peg” Lemen, 95 years of age, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 26, 2023 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.
Peg was born July 30, 1928 in Whitesboro, NY the daughter of William and Gertrude (Lander) Hayes. In 1933 her family moved to Dansville and she has remained a lifelong resident. Peg and Frederick Lemen were married February 15, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Church in Dansville and celebrated over 65 years together prior to Fred passing away July 23, 2012.
Later in life, Peg worked for the Livingston County Office for the Ageing, however most of her life she was a homemaker for her husband and eight children. Her hobbies were many. She enjoyed membership in the Altar Society, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. Her passion though was playing cards, especially Bridge. A smirk and gleam in her eye were noticed when she “whipped” the Grand Masters at tournaments!
Peg was pre-deceased by her parents, William and Gertrude Hayes; her husband, Frederick Lemen; her daughter, Mary Lemen; her grandson, Nicholas Capobianco, her son-in-law Nicholas Capobianco; and her siblings, William, Theodore and Robert Hayes and Helen White. She is survived by her children and their spouses, John and Patricia Lemen of Winchester, VA, Margaret Capobianco of No. Myrtle Beach, SC, Stephen and Debra Lemen of Dansville, Thomas and Michelle Lemen of Perkinsville, Robert and Barbara Lemen of Livonia, Martha and Charles Capobianco of Stuart, FL and Joseph and Katie Lemen of Caledonia; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters in law, Rose Hayes of Dansville, Mary Kay Lemen of Rochester and Lois Sanford of Canandaigua; along with many nieces and nephews.
Peg’s family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated for her at 10am on Friday December 30, 2023 at St. Mary’s Church in Dansville. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville.
