Obituary of Michael Douglas Sick

Avon – Cohocton – Michael Douglas Sick, 39 years of age, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at his home in Avon. Mike was born Aug. 31, 1984, in Hornell, the son of Doug and Mary Therese (Nagle) Sick. He grew up in Wayland and Cohocton, graduating from Wayland-Cohocton Central School in 2002, and then attending Alfred University. Mike then began a career with the U.S. Army, serving honorably from June 2007 until May 2017, during which he deployed on one combat tour in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. He received multiple awards and commendations, including an Air Medal and a Combat Action Badge. Following his discharge, he joined the Army National Guard, where he has been employed since. Most recently he was an aircraft mechanic at Rochester International Airport. Mike was a social butterfly with a great sense of humor and hundreds of friends. His family and friends were important to him. Affectionately known as “Fun-cle Mikey,” he often organized cousins nights to get his family together. He also gathered dozens of friends for the unforgettable “Beer Olympics.” Mike held regular spots at the Geneseo Applebee’s and at MacGregor’s Grill in Henrietta. He truly loved his family and friends, and he will forever be missed by everyone that knew him. Mike was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Leverne and Doris Sick and Richard and Helen Nagle; his aunt Pamela Smith; and his uncles, Gregory “Haney” Sick, Larry Nagle and Bill Nagle. He is survived by his parents, Doug and Mary Therese Sick of Cohocton; his siblings, Bryan Sick (Bonnie Ye) of San Diego, Patrick (Amylynn) Sick of Cohocton and Jenniffer Lopez of Tampa, Fla.; his nieces and nephews, Emma, Lucas, Olivia and Jameson; his aunts and uncles, Robert and Carol-Lee Nagle, Dave and Rose Nagle, John and Kathy Nagle, Paul and Sheila Nagle, Michael and Donna Nagle and Richard and Laurie Nagle, Jeffrey and Letitia DeVoesick and Michele Sick; many cousins; and, as previously stated, hundreds of friends. Mike’s family and friends may call Wednesday, April 24, from 4-8 p.m. at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.
