Obituary of George W. Waite
Cohocton – George W. Waite, 81 years of age, passed away early Wednesday morning August 28, 2024 at St. James Hospital in Hornell.
George was born December 24, 1942 in Penn Yan. His family moved to Cohocton when he was four years old and George has remained a lifelong resident of Cohocton. George and Darlene Quanz were married August 2, 1997. Darlene passed away in June of 2000. George and Lorraine Zuris met after Darlene’s passing away and began a relationship that has lasted ever since.
George worked at Widmer’s Winery in Naples for around 10 years prior to retiring. His hobbies included watching his favorite television shows, especially Everybody Loves Raymond and any history and science program. He loved sports and the Buffalo Bills were his favorite team. George was a kind man and took care of those he loved.
George was pre-deceased by his parents; his wife, Darlene; his siblings, John Gibson, Robert Gibson and Mary Gibson. He is survived by his companion of 24 years, Lorraine Zuris of Cohocton; his adopted daughter and caregiver, Jennifer Wood of Cohocton; his step-daughters, Melissa Zuris of Springwater, Rebecca Lee (Andrew) Donahue of North Java; his grandchildren, Angela and Autumn Bennett and Matthew and Noah Donahue; his sister in law Linda Gibson of Watkins Glen and his niece Karen Calquhoun of Cheektowaga.
George will be laid to rest on Thursday September 5th, 2024 at 11am at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cohocton.
