I just heard today of Steve's passing and am totally shocked and saddened by this news. I only knew Steve for a few years and found him to be the most genuine and most likeable person you could ever meet. Skiing in Maine with Steve was a blast, largely because of him. I enjoyed his fun loving humor as well as his seriousness, his clever and logical thinking. He will be very much missed. My condolences to all his family and friends.
Rest in peace Steve, Your friend, Tom

I am still at a loss for words to put on paper how I feel. Although I knew Steve for a very short time, I was so touched by his most beautiful desire to serve others. Always setting an example, always kind, always giving. What a blessing to have crossed path with him. How I miss him, yet I smile when I look up into the night, because I know he is with Father God. I know the Lord smiled down at him all the time because he had a servant's heart. I will make it a point to serve others and in that, honor his memory and build the legacy he left.

It is still a shock that he's gone. He was such a good friend and someone I've thought about a lot over the years. We shared a lot of god times in Italy, France, Austria and of course in Turkey and Iraq.
My one regret is not being able to reconnect after so many years and now I'll not get the chance. He'll be missed but never forgotten.

He has touched everyone in his own very special way and will be remembered by each of us for the special person he was in each of our lives. When I received the call from his mom last week I said," No, it can't be." I was supposed to call him that night, as we shared a text on Monday morning. I still can't believe that one of my dearest friends is gone.
Steven was always there for me no matter what. I cherish the heartfelt talks we shared we always were there for one another during both good and bad times the last 8 years. He was the one person I could count on to be straightforward and honest and never hold back, wether I wanted to hear it or not.
I was very lucky to be able to visit with him a few times in Florida the last fews years and when he came to Pa. His infectious laugh and smile and robust hugs always brought a smile to my face.
He would always would talk about and share pictures of his sisters, nephews and nieces and mom. I loved seeing all of them and how they were able to enjoy great times together. He loved you all so so much. The memories of those special moments can never be taken away.

The world is a little less brighter place without you my friend.
You were a friend,a confidant and most importantly someone that got it.
No matter how long it had been since we had spoken, it seemed like only moments when we did. Your level of understanding and acceptance was a rare thing to find and I/we will all miss it.
The hours spent laughing so hard our sides hurt. The way that even while we didn't always agree there was no problem with hearing my side. then you would just say " Man your wrong. You are Effed up." and we would laugh so hard.
Brother I'm going to miss you so much.
My condolences go out to your family, your many friends and to all who's lives you touched.
I count myself very fortunate to have known you, and more fortunate to have called you friend.

I used to follow him around like a lost puppy just so he would teach me about the Chinook since I was fresh in Flight Platoon. I still remember the rock music coming from his room in the barracks. What an easy going, soft spoken guy.

Every time he came to Savannah Rick, Tyler (our son), and I would grab dinner. Bax and I texted regularly. He would often help me put life in perspective. He spoke often of his mother, sisters and family. When I told Ty of the accident he argued it wasn't Bax, couldn't be because riding was second nature to him, the police made a mistake. My deepest sympathies for all of the Baxter family. My heart goes out to each of you individually, as each of you has a special and unique relationship with Steve. He is one of the kindest persons that I have been blessed knowing.
I do not like referring to a past tense, as I believe that those who pass on are still carried within our hearts. So with that being said, I believe that the part of Steve that I will carry with me, is his love of family. He set the bar high, and I am resolved to try to reach a level of compassion and understanding that he would want.
Again, I am sorry that we won't be able to sit with him, but I know that we will continue to carry him with us. I am sorry for his loss, but grateful that he was in my life. Rest in peace Steve, you are already sorely missed.
