Obituary of Constance M. Quanz
Wayland – Constance M. “Connie” Quanz, 87 years of age, passed away early Wednesday afternoon November 11, 2015 at her home.
Connie was born May 8th, 1928 in Hornell, the daughter of George W. and Helen (Wright) Daniels. Connie grew up in Hornell, however most of her life, she lived in the Wayland area. Connie was a 1946 graduate of Hornell High School and a 1950 graduate of Geneseo College obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education. Connie and Martin J. Quanz were married December 27th, 1961 at St. Ann’s in Hornell and together celebrated over 48 years of marriage prior to Marty passing away in July of 2010. Her entire employment career was as an elementary school teacher at Wayland Central School, retiring in 1978.
Connie’s Catholicism was important to her as she was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church while living in Hornell and St. Joseph’s Church while living in Wayland. Her hobbies were many as she enjoyed reading, genealogical research and writing obituaries for the Wayland Historical Society of which she was a member of. She also was a member of the Lowell Club, a founding member of the Little House as well as a director for the Little House and a Girl Scout Leader. Connie also was an avid bird watcher as she had many bird feeders at her house.
Connie was pre-deceased by her parents, George and Helen Daniels; her husband Martin Quanz and a sister Jean M. Daniels She is survived by her sister, Carol Winters; her nephews Jack Winters and Dan (Jen) Winters, her niece Lisa (Brad) Sponsel; and several nieces and nephews from the Quanz side of her family; along with several caregivers throughout the years.
Connie’s family and friends may call Sunday from 1:00 – 4:00pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service will be offered for Connie at 10:15 Monday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Connie Monday at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Church in Wayland. Committal prayers and internment will take place immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Wayland. Memorial contributions in Constance M. “Connie” Quanz’s memory may be made to the Wayland Historical Society, 100 S. Main St., Wayland, NY 14572 or to St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland, NY 14572.
